Syo Bakarn was the mentor and father-figure of the Barsen'thor, and the close friend of Satele Shan, Jaric Kaedan, Orgus Din and Bela Kiwiiks. He was also the friend of Yuon Par, Duros Fain, and Tharan Cedrax, the latter of whom once kissed him at a party. Syo was gentle by nature, and almost broken by the relevation that the Emperor had been using his body to infiltrate the Republic under the persona of the First Son. After the First Son's defeat on Corellia, Syo was officially declared dead to protect him, and after some time in partially self-imposed exile gradually returned to the Order and Tython Temple as a respected Master no longer on active duty.

Up close, he felt like clear water rippling gently over one’s toes, and shelter from the noonday heat from a leaf canopy. He was shelter, not to hide from what was without, but to cherish what else was within. And, more inanely, he made her think of toast for breakfast. With her eyes, she could see a Human man, symbols of authority and healing decorating his outer tunics. He was pale-skinned, grey-haired; maybe in his fifties.
Syo raised a gentle brow of his own; he was gentle, too, in a way that Master Yuon had not been, the distant, strict, yet mild-mannered Jedi Brider had subconsciously shaped herself as a reflection to.

“Master Syo was a great Jedi. He was my mentor and my friend. He is a role model. I was Knighted after a very brief time as a Padawan, and my Master was gravely ill for quite some months around that time… and some of my duties as a Knight were known only to the Masters of the Council. Syo gave me guidance, and also had faith in me that helped me find faith in myself.”--Brider Surriss, Barsen'thor, on Syo
