An Iridonian Zabrak and third Bar'senthor of the Jedi Order, Brider Surriss is a dedicated, compassionate diplomat. Understanding and selfless to what many would argue is a fault, she has never turned down somebody asking for her assistance.

The Bar'senthor is a mild-mannered Zabrak sage who has never harmed a person she didn't first exhaust every option of trying to make peace with. She was very close to Syo Bakarn, regarding him as her father, and absolutely did not want to replace him on the Council. She and her "immediate family" (her companions) largely live a nomadic life on her ship, Serenity, going wherever people need help that they can give. She and Volya were childhood friends.

[ She has full Light Side alignment, with 20,000 LS points and zero DS points. There are two strongholds in her name, both Jedi academies, on Alderaan and Yavin IV. ]

“I’ve never concerned myself with what people deserve. If they need my help, that’s more than enough reason for me to help them.”
“War breaks Jedi like her.”
“War breaks everyone. Jedi like her break war.”

I've been through hell and come out singing. --The Mincing Mockingbird Guide to Troubled Birds

You are most powerful when you are most silent. People never expect silence. They expect words, motion, defense, offense, back and forth. They expect to leap into the fray. They are ready, fists up, words hanging leaping from their mouths. Silence? No. --Alizon McGee

There are no unsacred places; / there are only sacred places / and desecrated places. --Wendell Berry, How to Be a Poet

You can put your strength down. I’m sitting here with you at your kitchen table. You don’t need to say anything. --Eden Robinson, Writing Prompts for the Broken-hearted

For as soon as one recognizes vulnerability, which is so different from weakness or the tragic, one experiences a sense of tenderness. Without tenderness, pleasure means nothing. You need only look at animals to see the truth of that. It is gentleness that distinguishes their playing from the actions they constantly take to ensure their survival. --John Berger, A Painter of Our Time: A Novel
