Sarek

Sarek, child of Skon, child of Solkar, was born into the House of Surak, which was under the guidance of Oldest Mother T'pau. He was an adept computer programmer, and focused on his work to the exclusion of most friendships. T'pau sent him to the Vulcan embassy on Terra, ostensibly to be their IT person and to report back to her. He fell in love with Terra, and in time was called to be the new Vulcan ambassador to Terra. He also fell in love with a linguist called Amanda Grayson, a Human (SW). They married, and had a son, Spock.
Sarek was originally strongly opposed to any Vulcans being involved with Starfleet on ethical grounds, due to Starfleet's military aspects (JtB). This led to a very tense and strained relationship with his son, Spock, who chose to enter Starfleet Academy over the prestigious Vulcan Science Academy (JtB), though they later repaired their relationship (VH). He later softened this stance, even briefly donning a spare Starfleet uniform when working to render aid in a disaster zone (ID.E).
